Welcome to the Gender and Sexuality Studies program at the University of Miami. Gender and Sexuality Studies (GSS) offers an interdisciplinary approach and we are fortunate to be in the city of Miami. As a multiethnic hub of the Americas and a unique American city, Miami offers an ideal vantage point from which to learn about and apply the concepts and theories of gender and sexuality. The GSS program offers two core courses: Introduction to Gender and Sexuality Studies (GSS 201) and Introduction to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Studies (GSS 202). These core courses present an introduction to concepts which facilitate each student's journey towards mastery of the complexities of sex and gender. Further, students can also choose from a wide range of courses taught by professors spanning twelve academic disciplines and satisfying a variety of cognates. The GSS program at the University of Miami also is a model of the core values of "Inclusion and Belonging." As such, we hold monthly lunch colloquia that are open to everyone in the UM community. These colloquia feature work and research of professors at UM, and thus enrich the cultural life of the university. These events are also social events where students, staff, and faculty can bond around shared values of diversity and inclusion across difference.
